LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into a vehicle near Bashford Manor in Louisville on Thursday afternoon.
Louisville Metro Police said officers were called to the area of Newburg Road at the exit to Interstate 264 around 2 p.m. on a reported crash, according to department spokesperson Aaron Ellis.
Once on scene, police found a motorcycle and an SUV that had crashed. Based on their investigation and information from witnesses, police believe a man on a motorcycle was headed north on Newburg Road "at a high rate of speed" when he hit an SUV in the southbound lane that was turning left onto the I-264 East ramp.
The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and taken to UofL Hospital where he later died, Ellis said. The motorcyclist was later identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as 60-year-old Joseph Taylor, of Louisville.
The driver of the SUV was not injured and no other vehicles were involved, police said.
Northbound traffic on Newburg Road is being diverted onto I-264 East away from the scene, according to Ellis. The ramp from I-264 East to Newburg Road is also closed.
