LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 19-year-old woman was arrested after hurting a child at an elementary school in southern Indiana, according to police.

Madison Consolidated School District learned about a possible battery at Ryker's Ridge Elementary School on Feb. 28. According to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, a detective spent hours conducting interviews with possible victims, witnesses and school administrators March 4.

Sammi Clark, of Madison, was arrested Tuesday. She was taken to jail and charged with six counts of battery on a person less than 14 years old, according to police.

Madison Consolidated School District said an employee was placed on administrative leave Feb. 28 and terminated March 3.

"On Friday, February 28, 2025, the district administration became aware of a situation involving an instructional support person who did not meet our expectations regarding the physical safety and care of children in our schools," the school district said in a statement. "The situation was reported to the Department of Child Services on February 28, 2025, and law enforcement was notified through the system process. The district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement."
