LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A federal grand jury indicted four men from China for gift card tampering schemes in Kentucky.
Zhiqiang Huang, Chaoming Lin, Huixing Yu and Tianlong Chen face charges for possessing counterfeit and unauthorized devices.
They're accused of using those devices to tamper with thousands of gift cards. The men were arrested by St. Matthews Police in 2024 after being accused of placing compromised gift cards on a rack at a Kroger.
Prosecutors said this form of gift card tampering involved stealing gift cards from stores, stealing sensitive information from them and then placing them back at retailers to be sold to unsuspecting consumers.
Investigators said the men were found with nearly 6,000 gift cards. All four men also have state cases pending in Louisville.
