LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting in the Smoketown neighborhood.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has charged Dakarai McDonald, 25, for the death of Michael Evans.
The 70-year-old was shot and killed on S. Preston Street Saturday morning.
An investigation revealed McDonald entered a home in the 900 block of South Preston Street. LMPD said officers secured that home and asked LMPD's SWAT team for support.
The SWAT standoff ended after nearly 6 hours when officers said McDonald was taken to the hospital.
McDonald is charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
He's scheduled to be in court at 9 a.m. Monday morning.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
