LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 31-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for a June 2023 fatal shooting in downtown Louisville.
Initially, Louisville Metro Police arrested Timothy Wright and Willetta Lewis in connection to the shooting death of 38-year-old Jeffrey Bizzle that occurred on June 1, 2023.
According to court records, Lewis stole items from Bizzle at 1st and Jacob streets, and Bizzle was then shot by another man.
Police said Lewis was identified by a witness through surveillance video, and investigators also used the surveillance video to identify Wright, the man who shot Bizzle.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, Wright was found guilty of murder by a Jefferson County jury and recommended a life sentence. Wright waived a sentencing hearing and was sentenced Thursday.
"We have no place for gun violence in our community," Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina Whethers said in a news release. "With the life sentence the jury recommended in this case, they reinforced that message. This outcome serves as a reminder to everyone to think twice and put down the gun, or they too will face severe consequences."
Lewis accepted a plea agreement on May 23, 2025, and pleaded guilty to criminal facilitation to murder and entered an Alford plea of guilty to criminal facilitation of robbery.
Her sentencing was delayed until Wright's prosecution was finished. She is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, Dec. 17.
