LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 61-year-old man was shot and killed by police in Laurel County after neighbors say they served a warrant to the wrong home, reported by LEX18.
Kentucky State Police said the London Police Department served a warrant at 511 Vanzant Road in Laurel County on Dec. 23 at 11:53 p.m. According to police, when officers served the warrant, they said Doug Harless, 63, pointed a gun at them.
Police shot Harless and he died on the scene.
But neighbors of Harless said police went to the wrong home.
"But now everything is breaking out, whether the search warrant was for 489, which is right here on this corner, two doors down from Doug," a neighbor said to LEX18. "They are looking for the guy that lives there in that house for a stolen weed eater."
Carl Merrit lives across the street from where the shooting happened. He has surveillance camera footage of the incident.
"Well it shows on the camera that there were police officers on his porch and they announced that they were there," Merritt said. "They banged and banged and banged, until they finally made their way through the man's door and with not even making it completely through the door, they shot him. I mean it was just that quick."
London Police Department said the officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave.
KSP is investigating the shooting.
