LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The 70-year-old bishop accused of setting his own church on fire three years ago pleaded not guilty in court Monday.

Jonathan Mullins was the bishop of the Greater New Hope Community Church in Old Louisville when it burned down in March 2021. He was indicted earlier this month on arson charges, accused of starting fire to the three-story building at East Jacob and South Floyd streets.

In court Monday, a judge released Mullins on his own recognizance. If convicted, he could face 20-50 years or life in prison.

The building was originally constructed in the 1920s as the Keneseth Israel Synagogue. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
