LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A beloved K-9 of the Indiana State Police has died.

ISP Jasper post announced K-9 "Barker" was found dead on Saturday "due to unforeseen medical reasons." No foul play is suspected. Barker was eight years old.

ISP said in a release Barker was the loyal partner of Trooper Jacob Lauer. Barker served ISP as a dual-purpose K-9, trained both in patrol duties and narcotics detection at the Jasper post. He assisted in numerous criminal investigations, narcotics seizures, subject apprehensions and community demonstrations to build community bonds with Trooper Lauer.

ISP said Barker served with "unwavering loyalty, courage, and heart."

"K-9s are more than just working partners, they become part of our family," ISP Lt. Brock Werne said in the release.
