LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former Clark County Probation Department employee is facing felony charges after investigators said he falsified information on his job application.

According to Indiana State Police, Michael Kirby, 51, of Jeffersonville, was arrested following an investigation into allegations he provided false information about his qualifications.

Police said Kirby was hired in August 2025 as a probation addiction treatment and support case manager for Clark County after submitting an online application and resume in July. But Clark County officials contacted ISP after concerns surfaced about Kirby's qualifications following his hiring.

ISP Detective Rob Caudill led the investigation and determined Kirby allegedly falsified details about his education, prior law enforcement employment and military service. Investigators also found degrees Kirby claimed to have earned from Austin Peay State University weren't awarded and appeared to be fabricated.

According to police, Kirby said the information on his July application was true and correct. Detectives later developed probable cause to believe he knowingly and intentionally submitted false and inaccurate information and documentation regarding his education, employment history and work experience.

An arrest warrant was issued by the Clark County Circuit Court charging Kirby with perjury and counterfeiting, both Level 6 felonies.

Troopers arrested Kirby at his residence Thursday morning without incident. He was taken to the Clark County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 bond.

The Jeffersonville Police Department assisted troopers with the arrest.
