LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — A Louisville teen sentenced in connection with the deadly 2024 Harvest Homecoming shooting that killed 18-year-old Bryce Gerlach will now serve his full prison sentence after prosecutors said he lied under oath.
Damarius Gardiner Person, 19, appeared in Floyd Circuit Court Monday, where he apologized to prosecutors and Gerlach's family.
Person pleaded guilty in May of 2025 to assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice after originally being charged with murder, aggravated battery, assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice.
Under his plea agreement, Person was sentenced to six years in prison. He was eligible to be released after serving four years for good behavior before serving the remaining two years on home incarceration. With the perjury charge, that opportunity has now been revoked.
"We expect the truth to be told," said Floyd County Prosecutor Chris Lane. "No matter what allegiances you might have, if you make an agreement to tell the truth, we expect you to tell the truth. If you don't tell the truth and we can prove it, we'll do that."
The shooting happened in the ride area in the middle of the packed annual Harvest Homecoming fall festival the evening of Oct. 12, 2024. Gerlach, a Corydon Central High School senior, was killed, and two other people were injured. Police have said all three were innocent bystanders who weren't involved in an alleged argument that broke out between two groups of people, which investigators believe led to the shooting.
Person is one of 13 people charged in connection with the shooting. His trial for the perjury charge is scheduled for late October.
