Former employee of Jeffersonville store stabs owner in early morning attack, police say

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Police said a Jeffersonville convenience store owner was stabbed when a former employee attacked him early Monday morning.

Jeffersonville Police said officers were called to a disturbance around 6 a.m. Monday, April 27, in the 1800 block of East 8th Street. When officers arrived, they found a man with a stab wound.

In a social media post Tuesday, police identified the victim as 52-year-old Ghanshyambhai Patel, the owner of the Daily Mart at East 8th Street and Colonial Park Drive. He was transported to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Arshad Iqbal, a 42-year-old former employee of Dairy Mart, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery and intimidation. Police said Iqbal entered the store with a knife and attacked Patel.

Police said a motive for the stabbing is still under investigation, but "everything suggests this incident involved a personal relationship" and is an "isolated incident."
