LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Friday, Nov. 8, marks one year since two young boys were shot and killed by their mother in their Bullitt County home.

Police said a neighbor found Tiffanie Lucas' sons — Maurice Baker Jr., 6, and Jayden Howard, 9 — shot inside the family's home on Bentwood Drive. Both boys were taken to the hospital but died from their injuries.

Lucas was arrested Nov. 8, 2023, and charged with two counts of murder. She pleaded guilty on Oct. 23, 2024, after being held in the Bullitt County on a $2 million bond since her arrest.

The case shocked the community. Outraged relatives of the boys have attended every court hearing for Lucas. Maurice's aunt, Bobbie Baker, didn't hold back when she addressed media after the most recent court appearance, just moments after Lucas entered a guilty plea.

"You're a monster," Baker said. "You were a monster to them at the end of the day. That's what you became to them."

Baker said if the case had gone to trial, she would have continued to show up in court for her nephew. She also said she plans to speak in court, if possible, during the sentencing hearing.

By entering a guilty plea without accepting a deal, Lucas avoided a jury trial. It's now up to Judge Rodney Burress to sentence her. He said she faces a penalty of 20-50 years for each charge, which could run concurrently or consecutively. She could also be sentenced to life in prison.

Burress said in October that the guilty plea means Lucas has waived her right to appeal her sentence.

Lucas is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Nov. 22 in Bullitt County.
