LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Hardin County couple is facing charges after police said they were found unresponsive in a car with their baby and drugs inside.

Hardin County Sheriff's Office said a deputy and the West Point Fire Department responded to the North Fourth Street boat ramp parking lot Tuesday around 9:35 a.m. on a welfare check. The deputy found two unresponsive adults in a car with a baby crawling around inside.

Police said the car was not running, the windows were down and a strong marijuana smell was coming from the car. The baby was wearing only a diaper and crawling around the car, within reach of drugs and a loaded gun.

Police had to used "sternum rubs" to wake up the driver and passenger. When police searched the car, they found large amounts of meth and marijuana bagged individually, a loaded gun, digital scales, a meth pipe and other drug paraphernalia, which police said is consistent with drug trafficking.

Christopher Burns, 37, and Kiara Fizer, 26, are charged with drug trafficking and child endangerment. Police said the couple are the baby's parents.

The baby was taken to Norton Children's Hospital in downtown Louisville to get checked out and is now in Child Protective Services custody.

Burns and Fizer are both scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning.
