LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Detectives with Indiana State Police are looking for suspects after several "swatting" incidents targeted members of the Indiana General Assembly.

According to a news release Thursday from ISP, "swatting is an incident in which someone with ill intention notifies law enforcement via phone call, email or other form of communication of a false emergency at a targeted location. The end goal of this is to generate as large a scale law enforcement response as possible."

That's what happened to state Sen. Greg Goode, R-38, over the weekend when someone reported a fake emergency at his Terre Haute home, according to a report from the Associated Press. The swatting call came hours after President Trump criticized Goode and another state senator for opposing his redistricting plan.

Deputies were sent to Goode's home after receiving an email "advising harm had been done to persons inside a home," according to a statement from the Vigo County Sheriff's Office.

Before the incident, Trump criticized Goode, along with Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, for opposing a redistricting plan for Indiana. Republicans already hold a 7-2 advantage in the state's congressional delegation.

Not only is swatting against the law, it's also extremely dangerous for law enforcement and the intended victim(s). Investigators are working with local, county and federal law enforcement partners to find the suspects.

Once located, those responsible for the bogus reports will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Police are asking the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification and capture of the people responsible.
