LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana man is facing serious charges after he allegedly dumped thousands of pounds of construction waste and debris at four unauthorized locations.Â
The investigation started Nov. 6, according to information posted on the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. A landowner reported a large load of construction debris had been illegally dumped on his property located in the 3000 block of West Clifty Drive. The caller also told Sheriff Ben Flint he caught the person in the act later the same day when he saw a vehicle on the property in the process of dumping more trash.
A person who works for the caller confronted the person in the vehicle, which was later identified as Samuel Jason Hedrick from Fishers, Indiana. Hedrick told the employee he understood it was legal to dump at the location because he said it's a landfill. Hedrick was told that's not true and was asked to leave the property.
That's when police said Hedrick "became verbally combative and fled the scene in his vehicle while towing a trailer loaded with construction debris."
Investigators determined that Hedrick was listed as the operator of a Fishers hauling company known as "Gone Today Hauling LLC." Hedrick was working as a subcontractor for ADEP Trucking to haul debris from a demolition project in Hanover, but none of the construction debris associated with that project had been legally disposed of within Jefferson County.
Police subsequently located four illegal dump sites in Jefferson County, where an estimated combined weight of more than 8,000 pounds of waste and debris had been "discarded irresponsibly across the community."
Some of the sites where the trash was illegally dumped included "active agricultural fields, causing damage to crops and requiring extensive cleanup efforts by local farmers."
Hedricks was arrested Nov. 14 in Fishers on a warrant issued out of Jefferson County. He was was taken to the Jefferson County Jail and faces the following charges: two counts of level 6 felony criminal trespass, two counts of level 6 felony criminal mischief, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.Â
Hedrick's bond was set at $10,000 full cash. He has a hearing scheduled for Nov. 25 in Jefferson Superior Court.Â
