LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Instead of celebrating her mom's 71st birthday, Lynn Lockhart is left with unanswered questions about who killed her mom.

Almost 10 months ago, on Sept. 3, 2023, Louisville Metro Police said a red pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Cambridge Drive when it was involved in a head-on collision with a moped traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact caused the moped to leave the roadway and land in a grassy area.

The driver of that moped was identified as 70-year-old Deborah Richardson, Lockhart's mom.

“Nobody should have to see their mom in the street after she’s been killed,” Lockhart said.

Unfortunately, that image is burned into Lockhart's mind. She thinks it is also burned into the mind of the person responsible for her mom's death.

"It's probably something they see every time they close their eyes," she said. "Whether they meant to do it or not, they didn't stop. They didn't acknowledge they killed her, that they took her life. They never said they were sorry."

Lockhart said police have a video clip of the car, and that it is a red pickup truck, but that has gotten her no closer to answers.

"It's just like it has been put behind them and forgotten, and we're just supposed to let it go, and I can't," she said.

LMPD said the investigation into Richardson's death remains open and ongoing.

It was one of 17 deadly hit-and-runs in 2023.

Lockhart said once the family knows who is responsible for her mom's death, it will help her get one step closer to closure.

"I have her ashes and have a plan for them, but I can't let them go until I know she can rest peacefully," she said.
