LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of fentanyl pills were seized before they could reach the streets of Louisville.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies seized about 1.1 kilograms on fentanyl, which is roughly 11,000 pills.
Investigators believe the shipment was headed to a Louisville address before deputies intercepted it.
"This seizure very likely saved lives," the sheriff's office said Monday in a news release. "Fentanyl at this scale poses an extraordinary risk to our community and removing it before it could be distributed makes a real difference."
Two men are facing charges in connection with the drug seizure, but deputies aren't releasing details about how the drugs were found due to the ongoing investigation.
