LMPD finds stolen car, drugs after responding to call about stranded motorist

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a Louisville man after authorities say he was caught with a stolen car.

Alex Smith, 28, and a co-defendant were taken into custody early Tuesday morning in the 5000 block of Merribrook Lane, near Wolf Pen Branch Road in Prospect.

According to an arrest report, an officer responded to the scene on a report of a stranded motorist. When the officer arrived, the vehicle was found to be stolen.

Officials say an officer searched the vehicle and found several syringes loaded with what appeared to be heroin and a small bag containing a substance believed to be crystal meth.

Investigators say several other items were found that were believed to be stolen including other people's licenses, checkbooks, and credit cards that did not belong to Smith or the co-defendant.

According to police, Smith also had a handheld flashlight and screwdrivers in his possession, and these were believed to be burglary tools.

Smith is charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of burglary tools.
