LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â Louisville Metro Police has released video of officers arresting the man who allegedly stole an SUV with a 9-month-old baby inside.
LMPD arrested 34-year-old Brandon Conley in late August. He's charged with stealing a family's Gold Chevy Trailblazer with their baby in the back seat.
LMPD said it happened Aug. 27 in the area of South Brook Street and East Broadway.
"It literally happened in the flash of an eye," the child's mother, who doesn't want to be identified, told WDRB. "I couldn't breathe. I couldn't think. It was the longest 15 minutes of my life."
She said she left her baby boy asleep in the car while she ran a quick errand. Surveillance video shows Conley getting inside that SUV shortly after and driving away.
LMPD said Conley dropped the 9-month-old off on a couch at Jewish Hospital.
His mother rushed there as soon as she heard the news, saying "I didn't need any other confirmation. I started walking to my baby."
She said she couldn't wait to hold her baby again because "a lot of people don't get this opportunity."
LMPD released aerial video of Conley's arrest on Wednesday, showing it happened as he approached Muhammad Ali Boulevard and 27th Street.
"You can have plans in place," Chief Paul Humphrey said. "But the suspect stopped right there. The officers made a decision to go ahead and take him into custody right there, and everything worked out. "
Humphrey said the quick arrest was partially thanks to the help of Flock cameras. In July, city leaders said LMPD has roughly 300 of the devices "either installed or in the process of being installed throughout our community."
"We've been able to utilize that type of technology to locate and apprehend criminals or vehicles that have been involved in crime," Humphrey said. "You not only had Flock cameras, but you had some equipment utilized by SWAT. You had the air unit. We should have our second helicopter up and running here soon."
The family got their vehicle back, and said the baby is "doing good"Â after this terrifying experience.
Conley faces charges for kidnapping a minor and auto theft.
At this time, no charges have been brought against the child's parents.
"We're letting division detectives handle that," Humphrey said. "They will consult everything with the Commonwealth if there are any other charging decisions that come out of that."
Humphrey believes the mother "learned her lesson" that day.Â
"It's bad enough to leave your car running or your keys in your car," Humphrey said. "But to leave your child in the car is not something that's safe to do."
