LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 26-year-old man was in court Wednesday after he allegedly stole a truck from a man in downtown Louisville Tuesday afternoon and crashed into an LMPD cruiser during a chase in the city's west end.

It happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday, in the 400 block of West Main Street in downtown Louisville, according to court documents. That's where police said Briylon Tyson entered a black Toyota Tacoma through the passenger door and confronted the victim. Police said Tyson told the victim he had a gun and stated: "I'm taking this vehicle, get out."

Officers reviewed surveillance video from the department's Real Time Crime Center and located the truck shortly after the carjacking and attempted a traffic stop, but Tyson refused to stop and continued to flee, ignoring traffic rules and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Police said Tyson was southbound on S. 26th Street approaching west Broadway when "he struck a police vehicle head-on." The force of the collision pushed the police vehicle into a bystander's vehicle. Tyson continued in the truck, with two flat tires, before the vehicle "spun out" and got stuck in the northbound alley behind 1844 W. Kentucky.

That's when Tyson jumped out of the truck and tried to get away on foot but officers caught up with him and took him to jail. A glass pipe commonly used to smoke meth, was found in his front pocket, according to the arrest report.

The pursuit continued for seven minutes, police said. Tyson's actions "placed countless lives at risk" by driving at a high rate of speed in a residential neighborhood, according to court documents.

Tyson was arraigned Wednesday on numerous charges, including: robbery, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance, fleeing or evading police on foot and in a motor vehicle, buying/possessing drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

During Tyson's arraignment, the judge entered not guilty pleas on his behalf and raised his bond from $50,000 to $100,000 cash.

Tyson's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 11.
