LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville couple was arrested after a 3-year-old was burned, according to court documents.
Louisville Metro Police were notified after a 3-year-old was taken to Norton Children's Hospital with severe burns to his hands and forearms Sunday. Medical staff told police the boy's burns were consistent with burns from being submerged in a hot liquid.
Police said the child was interviewed and told investigators "Jacob did this to my hands." The child said Jacob Snead put his hands in the sink with hot water.
Snead and Breanna Lair, the child's mother, are in a relationship. Lair told police she left the child alone with Snead for around an hour on April 6. According to court documents, Lair had been ordered not to do so by Child Protective Services due to an ongoing criminal abuse investigation involving Sneed and the child.
Lair admitted to police that she waited up to three hours before seeking medical attention for her child, according to police. Lair then provided false information to medical staff about the child's wounds, police said.
Sneed, 25, was charged with assault and criminal abuse of a child 12 or younger. Lair, 24, was charged criminal abuse of a child 12 or younger.
Sneed and Lair both pleaded not guilty in arraignment court Tuesday morning. Sneed's cash bond was set at $15,000, while Lair's cash bond was set at $10,000.
A spokesperson for Jefferson County Public Schools confirmed Lair is an instructional assistant at Wheeler Elementary. Her current status as an employee is unknown at this time.
