Officers responded to a crash near the intersection of West Hill Street and McCloskey Avenue just before 2 p.m. according to LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis.
Benjamin Schildknecht, 40, was driving a stolen Toyota pickup truck when he ran a stop sign and crashed into an on-duty officer in an unmarked Chevy Malibu.
According to the arrest citation, Schildknecht was traveling at a high rate of speed, going southbound on McCloskey Avenue. After the crash, he fled from the scene, but was later detained nearby.
The officer was taken to UofL Hospital with serious injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, Ellis said.
The citation said Schildknecht admitted to officers that he used methamphetamine 30 minutes before the crash.
Schildknecht is facing numerous charges, including fleeing from police, assaulting a police officer, and possession of drugs.
In court Friday morning, a judge set his bond at $50,000.
