Louisville man arrested after woman found dead in Jeffersonville's first homicide since 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested in connection with the first homicide in Jeffersonville since 2015.

According to Jeffersonville Police, officers were sent to an apartment in the 1900 block of Viking Court in Jeffersonville just before 4 a.m. Sunday on a report of a possible homicide.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman who had died after being shot multiple times.

She was later identified as 35-year-old Josephine Amon, according to detectives.

During the investigation, 37-year-old Marial Wel was located and questioned by Louisville Metro Police before being arrested on a warrant for murder.

He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections but will eventually be transferred to Clark County.

Amon's friend and co-worker told WDRB she began worrying last Friday.

"We clean churches, so we were cleaning a church and she was just telling me that she had been in contact with him and he was trying to get into the house," Tenisha Holt said.

Holt said the mother of four was married to Wel, whom she had left several months ago after things escalated.

"I knew that she had left him because they had some domestic issues," Holt said. "She just told me that. She just told me that he said he was going to shoot her."

The investigation is ongoing.
