LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police investigators identified the man accused of stabbing a woman in the Shawnee neighborhood Tuesday evening.

In a news release Tuesday, LMPD Sgt. Matt Sanders said police responded to a stabbing in the 300 block of North 44th Street near Northwestern Parkway around 5:17 p.m. When police arrived on scene, they said multiple residents were outside arguing, including the alleged suspect — now identified as 54-year-old Anthony Thornton.

The woman in her 70s had been stabbed multiple times and was rushed to UofL Health Hospital. Sanders said police used a taser on Thornton and took him into custody shortly after the stabbing.

The woman is expected to survive, according to Sanders. Police believe the stabbing happened after a dispute among neighbors.

According to court documents, Thornton was charged with assault, two counts of wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening in connection with the Dec. 31 stabbing. In a separate case, which also happened Dec. 31, Thornton is charged with robbery.

Thornton is being held at Metro Corrections in downtown Louisville. He pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning, and a judge set his bond at $150,000.
