LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Police believe it's possible a woman who walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to her shoulder late Tuesday night may have been hit by celebratory gunfire.

The woman showed up at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital on Bluegrass Avenue around 10:25 p.m., according to a news release from LMPD. That's where LMPD's 4th Division officers responded to find the victim -- a woman in her late 30s -- with a graze wound to her right shoulder from a gunshot.

The woman told investigators she had stepped outside her home in the 3100 block of Northland Drive, near Crums Lane and Cane Run Road, to let her dog out when she heard a loud "bang" before she felt pain in her shoulder.

"It's quite possible she was struck from falling celebratory gunfire," police said in the release, but added that's still under investigation.
