LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is in critical condition after a shooting at Mall St. Matthews' parking lot on Saturday evening.

LMPD Lt. Col. Emily McKinley said two police officers working off-duty at the mall on Shelbyville Road conducted a stop of a vehicle in the parking lot. One officer was in a marked LMPD vehicle and another officer was in an unmarked vehicle, but both officers were wearing LMPD uniforms.

McKinley said a man in the passenger vehicle sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man, who hasn't been identified, was taken to University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition.

Two other men, including the driver, in the vehicle weren't harmed. McKinley said they were fully cooperating with police.

"Because this incident took place while officers were conducting law enforcement activity, our public integrity unit is leading this investigation," McKinley said. "Body-worn camera footage is available and will be made public at a later date."

McKinley said the nature of the police stop is still under investigation. There have been no arrests or charges in the incident.

"We are grateful no other officers or citizens were injured in this incident," McKinley said.
