LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Detectives with the Louisville Metro Police Department arrested a teenager in connection with a New Year’s Day shooting.

Dereon Spencer, 18, was taken into custody Thursday morning after detectives with LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit located him and served a warrant. The shooting occurred during the evening hours of Jan. 1.

Police said the victim was transported to University Hospital by private means with injuries not thought to be life-threatening. A scene was later located in the 400 block of N. 25th St.

Spencer now faces one count of first-degree assault. He is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections pending further court proceedings.
