LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested and charged with two counts of murder after a mother and her 14-year-old daughter were found dead Tuesday morning in Louisville's Portland neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 3900 block of Miami Avenue around 10:15 a.m. on a report of "persons down," Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said in a statement. That's off Bank Street and North 39th Street.

Once on scene, police found the victims with "fatal injuries." They were pronounced at the scene, Mitchell said.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating. Earlier Tuesday, investigators had no suspects and had made no arrests. Mitchell said officers were "canvassing the area for any information and are following leads."

At 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Mitchell said investigators had a male in custody who was being interviewed. He said the homicide "appears to be domestic."

Just before 6 p.m., LMPD Sgt. Matt Sanders said officers arrested Tobias Malone, 24, and charged him with two counts of murder (domestic violence) and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Malone is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections downtown, awaiting his first appearance in court.

An arrest citation for Malone was not immediately available. His relationship to the victims is not known.
