LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The man accused of shooting a Texas Roadhouse manager in Okolona will have his case waived to a grand jury.
Ronald Winter, 24, is out of jail after posting a $50,000 property bond last week, according to court records. Monday, Judge Stephanie Burke ruled there's enough evidence in the case to send it to a grand jury in late July.
Winter pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and his bond was initially set at $25,000 cash. A request from his attorney to release him on his own recognizance was denied because of the nature of the allegations. Court records show Winter's bond was later modified to a $50,000 property bond.
According to Louisville Metro Police, officers responded around 6:11 p.m. June 11 to the restaurant on a report of a shooting.
Police said a man was shot in the shoulder at the restaurant and taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to court documents, when Winter tried to leave the restaurant without paying, a manager grabbed his arm. The employee said that when Winter tried to reach for his waistband, the employee tried to tackle Winter to the ground. That’s when the gun fired.
Winter fled the scene and was found a few hours later near Highway 44 in Shepherdsville.
Police also said Winter had previously left the same Texas Roadhouse without paying earlier this week, though they did not release additional details about that incident.
