LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man died at the hospital after being shot in New Albany on Monday morning, according to police.
New Albany Police responded to the shooting at 325 West 8th Street at 10:06 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man outside of the home who had been shot, Chief Todd Bailey said.Ā
The victim was taken to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died, Indiana State Police said in a news release Monday evening. He was identified as Johntae Trumbo, 30, of Jeffersonville, Indiana.Ā
ISP Master Trooper Philip Hensley said in an update Monday evening that the alleged shooter, a 17-year-old male, stayed at the scene and was detained as soon as officers arrived at the scene.Ā
The teen was detained for questioning. Based on the investigation so far, Hensley said he has since been charged with possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon, obstruction of justice and false informing. He's being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Jeffersonville.Ā
Hensley said that because New Albany Police investigators are "occupied with other investigations," ISP will lead the investigation into Monday morning's shooting.Ā
Investigators are working to figure out what led to Trumbo being shot. The Floyd County Prosecutor's Office will review the case and determine whether additional charges will be filed.
Bailey said following the shooting that all parties had been accounted for and there is no risk to public safety.
