LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An 18-year-old Mt. Washington woman was charged with attempted murder Saturday after police said she hit a police officer in the face with a screwdriver.

Kenzie Vanarsdale, 18, was arrested by Mt. Washington police Saturday morning, according to the booking log at the Bullitt County Detention Center.

According to her arrest citation, Officer Mark Bramer was at Lindsey Duvall Park, unlocking the gate to begin his shift when he saw Vanarsdale there. Police said Bramer asked Vanarsdale to come over to his cruiser, where she was initially cooperative and gave him her information.

The arrest citation goes on to say, however, that she abruptly fled on foot on Duane Way and onto Emma Court in Mt. Washington. Bramer chased her, yelling for her to stop and identifying himself as a police officer, the citation says.

Police said Vanarsdale stopped on Emma Court and put her hands in the air. As Bramer tried to handcuff her, Vanarsdale "spun around with a screwdriver in her right hand and struck officer Bramer approximately 3 inches above his left eye attempting to cause serious physical injury or possibly even death to Officer Bramer."

EMS was dispatched to treat Bramer. He's expected to be OK.
