LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The only man arrested in connection with the death of Crystal Rogers made an appearance in court Wednesday morning in an unrelated case.
Joseph Lawson's hearing in Washington County Circuit Court was related to a criminal mischief charge, which has nothing to do with the Rogers case.
He logged into the hearing from the hospital via Zoom.
Lawson was paralyzed in a motorcycle crash years ago, and it's believed that his hospitalization is related to that.
Prosecutors are seeking to revoke probation for a one-year sentence in an April trespassing and criminal mischief conviction.
His attorney, Kevin Coleman, said he hasn't even had a chance to talk to Lawson about the Rogers case yet because of Lawson's medical condition. He's hoping to talk with him soon.
The purpose of Lawson's court hearing Wednesday morning in Washington County was to determine whether or not his probation should be revoked because of his criminal mischief charge. The hearing was rescheduled for November.
Lawson failed to show up to meet with his probation officer in July and failed to pay restitution, according to court records.
Lawson is not charged with murder in the Rogers case, but he is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.
The conspiracy charges against Lawson in the Rogers case imply investigators don't think Lawson acted alone, but nobody else has been publicly charged. The only person ever named as a suspect before now is Brooks Houck, Rogers' boyfriend at the time of her death who was never charged.
"Like everyone else, I'm trying to learn as much as I possibly can about this case," Coleman said. "Discovery will be forthcoming and my investigation is well underway."
Lawson is scheduled to appear in Nelson Circuit Court on Oct. 26.
Rogers was last seen during the Fourth of July weekend in 2015. Her car was left running on the side of Bluegrass Parkway with her purse still inside. She's presumed dead, but her body was never found. Attorneys on both sides are now going through a lot of evidence in the case.
