LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana man is in custody, charged with murder in the shooting death of a Henryville woman more than two years ago.Â
Detectives with the Indiana State Police Cold Case Unit arrested 33-year-old Derek James Pixley of Borden, Indiana, Monday evening for the murder of Brittney Boman, according to a news release.Â
The shooting happened Oct. 2, 2022. That's when someone called 911 to report the shooting on Brownstown Road in Henryville. The Clark County Sheriff’s Department responded and found Boman with a gunshot wound. She was taken to UofL Health Hospital in downtown Louisville for treatment.
She remained hospitalized until her death on Dec. 30, 2022, according to the release. But in that time, Boman was never able to identify the shooter, according to family spokesperson Shawn Bostock.
"She was blinded by a light, heard a shot and she hit the ground," Bostock said. "She said she's seen a bright light in their face, heard a shot and felt a pain and was in and out of consciousness from then on."Â
The Indiana State Police Cold Case Unit took over the case from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department in Dec. 2024, and conducted numerous interviews before getting a warrant for Pixley's arrest.
"He was a subject of interest initially, and then the case went cold," said Bostock.
Troopers and detectives from the Indiana State Police post in Sellersburg located Pixley in Scott County and arrested him in the late evening hours of May 12, 2025.
"It's a tragic situation," ISP Sgt. Carey Huls said. "First and foremost, our thoughts go out to Brittney Boman's family. We're happy that we were able to continue the investigation to come to this point."Â
Bostock said it's a step in the right direction.
"Here I am fresh out of bed, standing up, and I'm screaming scaring my dog because finally justice had been served for the Boman family," Bostock said.
According to court documents, Boman had an active protective order against Pixley at the time of the shooting.
"Everybody that I had talked to say they were fire and gasoline together," Bostock said.
Witnesses said Pixley made threatening comments in the days leading up to the attack.
Pixley remains in custody at the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville. He is due in court on May 14.
