LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A possible suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman Friday morning in Louisville took his own life, according to police.

Louisville Metro Police said officers from its Fugitive Unit and SWAT were following leads from the homicide that happened just after 5 a.m. in the 2200 block of Liverpool Lane, which is off Bardstown Road near West Beuchel, when it happened.

LMPD Maj. Russ Miller explained what happened during a news conference Friday afternoon.

Miller said detectives investigating leads in the homicide were in the area of Kramers Lane, which is near Cane Run Road in the St. Denis neighborhood, around 1:30 p.m. That's when members of the Fugitive Unit located the man they believe shot the woman several times, but he took off.

"As that suspect was fleeing, the suspect decided to take his own life by discharging a weapon inside himself," Miller said.

Miller said the man shot himself outside a mobile home park, and noted that LMPD officers did not fire their weapons. He did not have any information on the relationship between the suspect and victim, who have not been identified.

Miller said he believes bodycam footage of the incident will be released in 10 business days, which is standard procedure anytime LMPD officers are involved in a shooting.

"As we always like to tell everybody, the more cooperation we get from the public, the more information we get, allows to try to get these suspects that commit these heinous crimes off the streets quickly," Miller said.
