LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The suspect in the shooting of a southern Indiana deputy was shot and killed by police on Saturday night, according to Indiana State Police.

Indiana State Police said Austin Schepers, 33, shot Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Zac Andry during a traffic stop on Highway 150 near West Baden on Friday at 12:30 a.m.

Police were searching for Schepers ever since the shooting happened. He was believed to be in New Albany or the greater Louisville area.

ISP said police located Schepers in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue, near Interstate 264, in the backyard of a home.

LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey said Schepers shot at officers. Multiple LMPD officers and U.S. Marshals deputies returned fire.
