LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was hospitalized Wednesday evening after police said she accidentally shot herself.
Police were called to University of Louisville Hospital around 7 p.m. on a report that a woman was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg, Louisville Metro Police Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said in a statement.
In an initial statement about the shooting around 8:30 p.m., LMPD investigators said after speaking with the victim, they believed the shooting happened on 22nd Street and Osage Avenue.
The victim told police she was assaulted and shot while being robbed by two unknown males.
But just after 10 p.m., Mitchell issued a correction in the case and said the woman was injured by "an accidental self-inflicted gunshot," and that it happened "in the area of National Turnpike."
No other information was provided, but WDRB has asked for more details and clarification.
Mitchell responded that "the story about her being robbed is not true."
