LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Metro council member is warning residents of the west Louisville neighborhoods she represents to be on alert near area day care centers.
Councilwoman Donna Purvis, D-5, represents the district including the Chickasaw, Portland, Russell and Shawnee neighborhoods.
In a newsletter and a Facebook post Monday, Purvis warned residents to be vigilant amid "recent reports of youth traveling through neighborhoods wearing hoodies, masks, and in some cases brandishing weapons."
Purvis said the incidents have happened during drop-off and pick-up times near "several" day care centers in her district.
"The safety of our children and community members is our top priority," Purvis said. "We urge all residents and caregivers to remain vigilant during these hours."
It's unclear whether or not there was a particular incident that prompted the warning from Purvis.
The Louisville Metro Police Department has not yet responded to a request for information about whether any reports have been taken or if there is an active investigation, as well as how many tips are coming in about the reported activity.
Residents, or anyone who witnesses any "suspicious behavior or individuals matching this description," are encouraged to call LMPD at (502) 574-7111.
