LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Strong wind gusts made it difficult for firefighters battling a fire in a vacant three-story home in west Louisville early Monday.Â
According to a news release, it happened around 1:45 a.m. in the 3000 block of River Park Drive. Louisville fire crews responded to that location within three minutes to find the home engulfed in flames.
Strong winds fanned the flames and caused the fire to spread to two nearby homes: one vacant and one occupied.
The home's natural gas service was still active, which helped fuel the flames and prolonged the fire. It took 35 firefighters about 90 minutes to get the fire under control.
The Red Cross is assisting one person in an adjacent home that was damaged by the flames.Â
The Louisville Metro Arson Bureau is working to determine the cause of the fire.Â
