LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Adair County students will have a little more time before heading back to the classroom as the district puts the finishing touches on its new middle school.

The district announced Wednesday it's pushing back the first day of school from Wednesday, Aug. 12, to Monday, Aug. 24.

Superintendent officials said the delay is tied to the remaining work at the new Adair County Middle School. While construction is almost complete, staff still need time to set up classrooms, prepare learning spaces and complete safety reviews before students arrive.

The district said the extra time will help make sure the new building is ready for students and staff when classes begin.

Adair County Schools plans to release an updated school calendar in the coming days with the revised start date.
