LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Greater Clark County Schools is celebrating the grand opening of a new and improved elementary school.
The district cut the ribbon on the new Parkwood Elementary School building Wednesday, located on Spicewood Drive in Clarksville.
The old building, which opened in 1968, was torn down this summer and is now a parking lot for the new facility.
Parkwood's new building will feature modern classrooms, a STEM lab and other updated technology.
"In the end, this is going to really pay off for the students and staff, said Mark Laughner, GCCS superintendent. "Because they're going to have a great learning environment, the staff is going to have a great working environment, and this building is something the community can be very, very proud of well into the future."
The school will also have a new mascot to go along with the new building. Instead of the pirates, the school will be know as the Parkwood Phoenix's.
Students will fill the classrooms at Parkwood this fall.
