LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several Hardin County parents received a fake message on Friday that said their child's school was being dismissed early.

The messages impacted families across a few different schools. District leaders said an 883 number called, left voicemails, or texted a handful of parents with the message that their school was being released early.

But the district said the calls didn't come from its schools, and they have no plans to release early on Friday.

They aren't sure who sent the messages or what their motivation was.

"It probably sounded like a legitimate phone call, but it wasn't," said John Wright, director of Communications for Hardin County Schools. "And so we just wanted, we posted that on our social media just to let people know that this, we were not letting school out early. We were not dismissing early and just to try to avoid that number."

Hardin County Schools said they will only contact parents from the number (207) 769-8800.
