LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Millions of children in the United States don't have shoes that fit properly. That's why a partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools is helping students start their day on the right foot.
Vanessa, a third grader at Minors Lane Elementary, couldn't stop smiling when she received her new pair of shoes on Thursday.
"It was a surprise! Like my birthday," Vanessa said. "Gray and pink and blue, they're my favorite color!"
And she's not alone. Zappos and Shoes That Fit surprised every student at the elementary school — that's nearly 400 pairs of shoes.
"They're so comfortable," third grader Landyn Adams said.
It's a step forward that allows the JCPS Students to learn better.
"Not having a problem as simple as your feet hurting during the day, it helps their concentration," Milessa Barnes, counselor at Minors Lane Elementary, said. "A lot of the students have talked about 'Now I can run faster. I can play my sports better.'"
Each student also picked out a bag, hat and matching mittens.
"Having hats and gloves to stay warm when they're outside playing in their new shoes, it's important," said Barnes.
Making the partnership the right fit for students like Vanessa.
"I feel excited!" she said.
