LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Public Schools' Board of Education approved a 5% raise for full-time permanent and part-time employees over the course of the next two years.

The raise will be split into 2% and 3% over the next two fiscal years: A 2% raise will take effect beginning July 1. A 3% raise will go into effect during the 2025-26 fiscal year.

JCPS said it has increased employee salaries by 14% overall from 2023 to 2026.

"With this and benefits we have essentially used every bit of additional revenue that we have received from the state, and plus maximizing the revenue we have to get to this 14% overall," said Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio.

The Jefferson County Teachers Association negotiated the raise with the district. JCTA president Maddie Shepherd said 1,844 members voted in favor of the raise, while 430 members voted no.

In 2022, JCPS approved two separate raises — 4% in June and 5% in November, adding up to 9% in six months.

The district also approved its polices regarding paid parental employees.

Employees who have been with the district for at least six months will be eligible for six weeks, 30 days, of paid parental leave.

Paid parental leave will apply to mothers and fathers following the birth or adoption of a child.

Parental leave goes into effect July 1.

"I think that's a fantastic celebration as well," Pollio said.
