LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A semitruck struck a fire engine Thursday afternoon on the Bluegrass Parkway, sending a Northeast Nelson County firefighter to the hospital.

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. while the firefighters were returning to the station after responding to another call, authorities said. The firefighter is recovering, though officials have not released details about his condition.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the collision.

Nelson County Fire and Rescue is lending a backup engine to Northeast Nelson Fire to ensure there is no lapse in fire protection for the community.

Authorities reminded drivers to slow down and stay alert when approaching emergency vehicles, emphasizing that accidents like this can be prevented with caution.
