LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Eight residents were displaced and a business was forced to close temporarily after a fire in Norton Commons.
Crews from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS and the St. Matthews Fire Department responded to the reported fire just before 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 11200 block of River Beauty Loop, according to Anchorage Middletown spokesperson Salvador Melendez.
Firefighters arrived within four minutes and found flames coming from a balcony between the second and third floors of the four-story building containing businesses on the first floor and apartments on the top three floors.
Crews conducted an interior fire attack to extinguish the main body of the fire. Smoke continued as flames continued behind the building, extending from the second to third floor, Melendez said. The fire was contained to those two floors.
A second floor unit and fourth floor unit sustained smoke damage. A business, Watch Hill Proper, on the first floor sustained water damage.
No injuries were reported. Eight residents of the apartments were displaced and the Watch Hill Proper will remain closed at this time.
In a post on social media, the whiskey bar said it would be closed "while we assess the situation."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Melendez said it took about 34 minutes to bring the fire under control.
