LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students kicked things into high-gear for a robotics competition in Louisville on Saturday.

The Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation and Jefferson County Public Schools hosted the annual RoboRumble Regional Robotics Tournament at Marion C. Moore School. Hundreds of students representing nearly 30 schools were challenged to design, build and compete with robots.

The competition included different tasks ranging from robot fights, obstacles, programming and storytelling.

"It is very important as we know technology is ever-changing and seeing students as young as eight years old coding their own robots to knock another robot off of a mat is just great," said Dr. Kathleen Receveur with JCPS.

RoboRumble has be held for more than two decades.
