LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville high school students celebrated the last day of Black History Month by cooking a feast.
The meal was served at Western High School in Shively on Thursday. It's an annual event for the school's Culinary Department.Â
Students prepared 29 different dishes to represent each day of Black History Month.
The meal celebrates soul food and Black culture and their influence on American cuisine.Â
"I don't think I have words that can express how proud I am of my students," said Nikkia Rhodes, culinary instructor at Western. "Without them, this event would not have happened. Without the Louisville community to help us fund this event and raise over $2,000, this would not have happened. So my kids deserve the world."
Some of the students' dishes included fried chicken, deviled eggs, ribs, banana pudding and red velvet cupcakes.
