LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Public Schools is making leadership changes to the team that helps oversee its transportation department.

Chris Perkins had been the district's Chief Operations Officer, but JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan told WDRB that he had accepted a reassignment. She gave no further explanation.

Perkins was COO as JCPS implemented a new busing plan at the start of the current school year with fewer routes. It caused major problems, delayed buses, got students home hours late and forced the district to cancel school for at least six days to allow time to come up with a workable plan.

The JCPS COO has "a wide range of responsibilities critical to the smooth functioning of JCPS, including transportation, facilities, nutrition services, and more."

A release from JCPS on Monday said Dr. Rob Fulk had been appointed the interim COO starting the same day. Fulk has been the assistant superintendent of middle schools since 2021.

"I’m honored to have this opportunity to lead the JCPS Operations division. The role of this division is clear: support our schools," Fulk said in a statement. "We build, maintain, and modernize our schools while also maintaining safe environments for our students. We are the wheels that keep our district moving forward, and I’m excited about the opportunity to support our schools in this new way."

Fulk joined JCPS in 2016 and has served as principal at Marion C. Moore School and Iroquois High School. Before JCPS, Fulk worked as an assistant superintendent, principal, and teacher for Trimble, Bullitt, and Oldham County Public Schools, respectively.
