LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown High School students took their talents to the pool on Thursday, building boats to race against each other in the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta.

It was the 25th year for the race. Students in the Computer Aided Drafting program brainstormed boat designs, which were then turned into a 3D model.

The students then built the boats by using the blueprints of those models.

Thursday, the students put their designs to the test.

"They're all given the same specifications, but year after year we see so many different designs, so to be given that flat set of specifications and to have 25 years of it go and not seeing many repeat designs is pretty cool," CAD program teacher Jason Stepp said.

The race was part of the students' final grade. Stepp said the race is a community event, with local companies making donations to help keep the program funded.
