LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some Kentucky lawmakers want parents of students involved in terroristic threatening to face a fine.Â
Terroristic threatening can include phone calls and posts on social media. Last year, four Jefferson County Public Schools' locations received fake bomb threats in one day.
House Bill 621 would fine parents of kids involved in making the threats. Even if there is no intent to follow through on the threat, police still have to operate as if the threat could be real.
"This would hold the parents accountable, to some degree, as far as checking their students' phones and seeing what they're looking at," said Steve Chappel, Bowling Green Independent Schools SRO supervisor.Â
The proposed bill also requires mental health services for the child involved.Â
The bill passed committee Wednesday morning, and will now be sent to the House for a full vote.Â
